Loving Kindness

I think maybe I'm just not good at this meditation thing, or maybe its this type of meditation, or maybe I just need practice. Other than relaxing me by focusing on my breathing I really don't find these things all that beneficial. Maybe what I need to do is instead of trying these while in the middle of my homework maybe I should do them after doing some yoga or something. It would be easier if I could have them downloaded to my phone or ipod so I could carry them with me.
The concept of a mental work out is the same as a physical one. Your mind can not improve if you do not focus on improving and do "exercises" to help improve it. Just like your body won't improve if you don't do physical exercise. Mental workout provides benefits such as the ability to expand your consciousness and its healing capacities. Other benefits are improved loving and kindness, compassion, gratitude and the ability to be calm and peaceful. To implement mental work outs in my own life I think it would be best to have some special quiet time where I don't have to focus on anything else, no noises and no children and no schoolwork! I think for me personally for them to work I need to do something first, like yoga, to relax my mind and body so that I can then focus on the mental improvements and meditation. With out being relaxed first, I don't think it will be affective for me.
