Self Awareness

I would rate my own physical well being around a 3, maybe a 4. The past year was stressful and I allowed myself to take it out on food. I gained weight, had several problems with my gallbladder and because of my weight gain I have experienced other health issues. I know this is an area I need to focus on.
I would rate my Spiritual well being slightly higher at maybe a 7. I have become more aware of myself and become more connected to my surroundings. I'm improving my thoughts and feelings towards myself and life.
My psychological well being is probably right around my spiritual at a 6 or 7. Through my struggles I have been able to come through to the other side with a more clear mind. I know what my goals are and I know how to achieve them. I'm feeling better about myself and more confident and happy.

My physical goal would be to gain control of my health, not just to lose weight but to be overall healthy and fit. To reach this goal I have adopted a high raw vegan diet full of nutritious fruits and veggies with some grains and beans and nuts and seeds. This gives me more energy, is healthy for my body and I naturally lose weight from eating healthy with out starving myself, going on some fad diet, killing myself at the gym or other unhealthy practices. I plan to continue this way even after my goals are met so it is more of a lifestyle change that will help me on my path to total wellness.

My spiritual goal is more difficult because I think many people have a different idea of what spiritual health is. For some it is religion, for others it is a oneness with nature. It is peace and harmony within the body and mind. For me, it is a oneness with myself, and my surroundings. I plan to achieve this by first, accepting things I cannot change. The situation is what it is and I need to find the good in it and be happy with the outcome. Only I can make my own happiness and I need to be happy in my life. Another way I plan to achieve this is by practicing some meditation techniques and yoga to relax my mind and body and bring them together in harmony.

My goal for my psychological well being is to just be mentally happy with myself and my life. A way to achieve this is to practice self love. Loving myself the way I am is important before any change can occur.

Doing the meditation exercise went better than the last one. I was able to do it when no one was awake, 4:30 in the morning! I think meditation is something you have to do for a while to get used to and fully appreciate and do correctly. I did feel more relaxed and felt like I could go to sleep! Which was good since I had not gone to bed yet! This is an exercise I would like to have on my ipod and take with me to the park, in the woods, and do in the spring time when the weather is nice :)

  1. Lauren,
I enjoyed reading your post. It sounds like you are on the right track to getting physically healthier by eating fresh raw fruits and veggies. I recently have been eating a lot more fruit and vegetables. I make these green drinks/smoothies with green leafy vegetables and fruit which makes it easy to get the nutrients everyday, plus I noticed that I have had more energy which motivates me to exercise more. I also need to improve my psychological well being by practicing self love. I need to be happier with myself to be more positive around others and to be mentally healthier. Good luck with your goals!

  2. Good Evening Lauren,
I also really enjoyed reading your blog post for this week's assignment. I like how you are on track to eating healthier that is really good for yourself and should help you out later in life if you are trying to make a better routine for yourself. I found that meditation was the best exercise because it really helps out a lot with stress and helps with the day to go along smoother. Thanks for all the great information and keep up the great work along with keeping on track with becoming healthier.
    Thanks,
    Eric Houston
